What to Know – FAQ’s

How does QWO® work?

QWO® works by using enzymes—called collagenases—to target the structure of the tissue below the surface of the skin. It breaks the fat bands that cellulite is comprised of redistributing cells to reduce the appearance of cellulite the surface of the skin. Additionally, it stimulates new collagen growth, to further enhance the skin making it firmer and smoother.

"Most women will have cellulite in their lifetime, but it is possible to lessen its appearance."

Dr. Bonnet

Cellulite is different from traditional fat.  It’s comprised of small fat cells that form into fibrous bands that put pressure on the skin from below. As you age, your skin naturally thins, making these bands more prominent. This happens beneath the surface of the skin, resulting in visible cellulite dimples and lines. Because of the unique nature of cellulite, and what makes it different from traditional fat deposits, diets and targeted exercise have little affect its appearance.

What Causes Cellulite?

What exactly causes cellulite is unknown, however, some studies show that the interaction between connective tissue and the fat beneath it, is what causes cellulite to form. When those fat cells protrude into the skin, lumps and dimples form. As the skin ages, these become increasingly more visible with time.

Hormones can also play a role in the production of cellulite. One theory is that as women age, estrogen levels decrease, causing blood flow to connective tissue to also decrease. Lower circulation results in lower collagen production, reducing the skin’s natural way of repairing and restoring itself. Cellulite is primarily natural for women, however, diet and lifestyle can also contribute to the production of cellulite, as excess fat cells are distributed to the upper layer of the skin.

What does a Qwo® treatment plan look like?

Qwo® is administered via a series of treatments spaced about 3-4 weeks apart. After meeting with our Aesthetic Nurse, an appropriate treatment plan will be created based on the areas designated for treatment. During this consultation, expectations will be discussed, and all of your questions answered. Treatment plans typically consist of 2-3 sessions spaced over several weeks to achieve optimal results.

After identifying the targeted treatment areas, a small needle will be used to inject Qwo® into those treatment areas on the buttocks. Each session will consist of about 12 injections. Total treatment time takes just around 10 minutes or less. It is important to note that At this time, the FDA has only approved Qwo® for the treatment of cellulite in the buttocks of adult women. If firmer, tighter skin is desired in other areas, other fillers or injectables like Botox or Juvederm may be appropriate.
